Audrey-Anne Veillette scored twice as the Montréal Carabins powered past UNB 5-1 in the second semifinal of the 2026 U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Championship on Saturday at the Woolwich Memorial Centre.
Montréal set the tone early, striking midway through the first period when Jade Picard opened the scoring at 9:23. The Carabins doubled their lead with a power-play goal just over three minutes later, with Juliette Rolland converting to give Montréal a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
Despite a strong push from UNB in the second period, goaltender Maude Desroches stood tall, turning aside all six shots she faced to preserve the lead. The Carabins carried that momentum into the third, where Veillette extended the advantage with her first of the night at 13:27.
UNB broke through late in the frame, as Hailey Jackson scored at 17:17 to cut the deficit to 3-1. However, any hopes of a comeback were quickly erased. Laurie-Anne Ethier restored the three-goal cushion with an empty-net marker at 18:42, before Veillette added her second of the game just 42 seconds later to seal the result.
Veillette finished with two goals on five shots to earn player of the game honours for Montréal, while Picard added a goal and an assist in a balanced offensive effort. Desroches made 20 saves in the win.
Payton Hargreaves was named UNB’s player of the game, contributing at both ends of the ice in a losing effort.
UNB still has a chance to win the program’s first national medal, as they will face the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the bronze medal game.
Meanwhile, Montréal advances to Sunday’s national final at 3 p.m., where they will face the Concordia Stingers in a rematch of the RSEQ final series.
