Émilie Lussier scored the overtime winner as the Concordia Stingers edged the Guelph Gryphons 2-1 in the first semifinal of the 2026 Miller Waste U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Championship on Saturday at the Woolwich Memorial Centre.
With the victory, Concordia advances to Sunday’s gold medal game at 3 p.m., while Guelph will play for bronze at 11 a.m.
Guelph opened the scoring late in the first period when Maeve Sutherland-Case, later named the Gryphons’ player of the game, finished off a rush at 16:12 to give her side a 1-0 lead. The Gryphons carried that advantage into the intermission after a strong opening frame in which they controlled much of the play.
Concordia responded in the dying minutes of the second period, as Courtney Rice buried the equalizer at 18:13 to tie the game heading into the third. The Stingers began to tilt the ice from there, outshooting Guelph 12-8 in the third period, but Martina Fedel stood tall to force overtime.
In the extra frame, Concordia’s pressure finally broke through. Lussier, named Concordia’s player of the game, capped off a strong performance by firing home a rebound off a shot by Jessymaude Drapeau at 5:42 of overtime to send the Stingers to the national final.
Jordyn Verbeek was excellent in the Concordia crease, turning aside 32 shots in the win, while Fedel made 28 saves for Guelph.
Concordia improves to 28-2-0 (22-2-0 RSEQ) with the win, while Guelph moves to 24-6-3 (19-4-3 OUA).
