The Bishop's Gaiters are heading to the U SPORTS women's hockey championship game for the first time in their four-year program history after a 2-1 semifinal win over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday at the Woolwich Memorial Centre.

Marjorie Bolduc and Noemie Fontaine each scored power-play goals for Bishop's (22-9-3), who leaned on a strong defensive effort and stellar goaltending from Ericka Gagnon to earn the victory. Gagnon made 25 saves, turning aside a late Toronto push to secure the win.
Bolduc opened the scoring at 16:37 of the first period, capitalizing on a setup from Fontaine and Justine Turcotte. Fontaine extended the lead early in the second, scoring at 2:06 with assists from Bolduc and Turcotte.
Toronto (27-10-1) responded in the third when Ashley Delahey found the back of the net at 12:38, with Taylor Delahey and Aili McKeown picking up assists. The Varsity Blues pressed for the equalizer and had several chances in a late-game power play, but couldn't break through.
Lyla McKinnon stopped 34 shots for Toronto in the loss. The Gaiters went 2-for-4 on the power play, while Toronto failed to convert on six opportunities.
With the win, Bishop's advances to Sunday's championship game against host Waterloo at 6 p.m. Toronto will play Concordia for bronze at 2 p.m.
