The No. 2 seed University of Toronto Varsity Blues advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 Miller Waste U SPORTS Women's Hockey Championship with a 2-0 win over No. 7 UNB in Friday night's quarterfinal at the Woolwich Memorial Centre.

Toronto broke the deadlock late in the second period when Scout Southward scored at 18:26, finishing a setup from Christina Alexiou and Madison Tiro. The Varsity Blues doubled their lead at 9:32 of the third period, with Tiro finding the net on assists from Southward and Alexiou.

Toronto goaltender Lyla McKinnon earned the shutout with a 13-save performance, backstopping the team to victory. At the other end, UNB's Cassie McCallum stood tall with 37 saves, keeping the Reds within reach despite a heavy shot deficit.

The Varsity Blues controlled possession throughout the game, outshooting UNB 39-13. Both teams had power play opportunities, but neither converted, as UNB went 0-for-2 and Toronto finished 0-for-4.

With the win, Toronto advances to the national semifinals where they will play No. 3 seed Bishop's at 7 p.m. on Saturday, while UNB will play UBC at 1 p.m. Saturday in the consolation round.
