A second-period hat trick by Jessymaude Drapeau led the No. 5-seed Concordia Stingers to a 5-2 win over No. 4 seed STFX in the first quarter final of the 2025 Miller Waste U SPORTS Women's Hockey Championship at the Woolwich Memorial Centre, Thursday. The fourth-year forward scored at 6:45, 12:12 and 18:04 of the second frame as the Stingers turned a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead in less than 12 minutes.
After a scoreless first period, the X-Women opened the scoring at 2:14 as Mackenzie Lothian fired a shot from the point that got past the Stingers' Jordyn Verbeek. STFX doubled their lead 73 seconds later thanks to a power-play goal by Terryn Mozes.
That was the afternoon's high point for the AUS champions, as the Stinger comeback started three minutes later. Drapeau opened the scoring for Concordia at 6:45 and Megan Bureau-Gagnon tied the game at the 11:21 mark. Drapeau's second goal, scored on the power play, gave Concordia the lead for the first time.
Concordia extended their lead to 5-2 on a goal by Emilie Lussier at 7:18 of the third. StFX pulled their goaltender for the final 6:13 of the game, but were unable to find another goal and close the gap.
The X-Women outshot Concordia 32-27 and went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Stingers went 1-for 5. Verbeek made 30 saves for Concordia while Bianca Zak had 22 stops for STFX.
With the win, Concordia advances to the semifinal round, where they will play the winner of the Alberta-Waterloo game on Saturday at 4 p.m. STFX, for their part, will play in a consolation semifinal on Saturday at 10 a.m.
