Koskie powers host Windsor past Montréal in five-set quarterfinal
Darian Koskie delivered a dominant performance to lead the host Windsor Lancers to a 3-2 comeback victory (23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-10) over the Montréal Carabins in the third quarterfinal of the 2026 BioSteel U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship on Friday at the Toldo Lancer Centre.
Koskie, named Windsor’s player of the match, recorded 14 kills on a blistering .619 hitting percentage while adding five block assists as the Lancers rallied after dropping the opening two sets.
Windsor, now 21-3 overall (18-2 OUA), found its rhythm midway through the match behind a balanced offensive attack. Gustavo Siqueira led the Lancers with 15 kills and four blocks, while Chase Bridges added 10 kills, four service aces and 10 digs. Anthony Ivanovski chipped in 10 kills on an efficient .643 hitting clip as Windsor finished the match hitting .307 as a team.
Montréal jumped out to an early advantage behind a strong offensive showing from Simon Coulet, who led all players with 20 kills while hitting .436. Hugo Considere added 12 kills and two service aces for the Carabins, who captured the opening two sets by identical 25-23 scores to put the hosts on the brink.
Setter Maxime St-Denis, Montréal’s player of the match, orchestrated the Carabins’ offence with 46 assists while adding five digs and a service ace.
The Lancers turned the momentum in the third set, improving their attacking efficiency and leaning on their blocking to slow Montréal’s offence. Windsor carried that surge through the fourth before pulling away late in the decisive fifth set in front of 2,100 fans.
With the victory, Windsor advances to Saturday’s second national semifinal, scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
Montréal, now 16-5 overall (14-2 RSEQ), moves to the consolation bracket and will play in a placement match on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
