In a thrilling semifinal showdown dubbed the "Battle of the Birds," the UBC Thunderbirds overpowered the McGill Redbirds with a decisive 3-0 victory at Vaso's Field on Friday. UBC, boasting a strong season record of 12-1-3, made their presence felt early as Luke Norman opened the scoring just three minutes into the match, assisted by Joven Mann.
Despite a valiant effort, McGill struggled to penetrate UBC's defense, managing only seven shots throughout the game. UBC maintained pressure, doubling their lead shortly after halftime when Oliver Herbert found the net at 46:33, with assistance from Henri Godbout. Just five minutes later, Norman struck again, this time cashing in on another Godbout assist to put the game out of reach.
McGill goalkeeper Ludovyck Ciociola recorded five saves, while UBC’s Bennet McKay turned aside three shots to preserve the clean sheet. The Thunderbirds dominated possession and dictated the pace, finishing with 15 shots compared to McGill's seven. With this win, UBC advances to the championship match against the Montréal Carabins, while McGill will face York for bronze.
