Laval pulls away from Acadia to claim fifth place at U SPORTS Men’s Final 8
Chris Tshibola scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Laval Rouge et Or to an 85-76 victory over the Acadia Axemen in the fifth-place game Sunday at the 2026 U SPORTS Men’s Final 8, presented by Student Housing Calgary, at Jack Simpson Gym.
With the win, Laval closes its season with a 23-9 record (13-3 RSEQ), while Acadia finishes the year at 19-15 (12-8 AUS).
Tshibola powered the Rouge et Or offense, shooting 8-for-16 from the field and adding six free throws while contributing four rebounds and four assists in 36 minutes. Jayden Larosiliere added 17 points and four steals, while Chakib Sedoud chipped in 19 points and eight rebounds as Laval placed three players in double figures.
Acadia kept the contest tight through the opening half. The Axemen held a narrow 15-14 lead after the first quarter and the teams battled evenly in the second frame before Laval took a slim 33-35 edge into halftime.
The Rouge et Or seized control in the third quarter, erupting for 25 points while holding Acadia to 14 to build a double-digit advantage heading into the final period. Laval continued to push the tempo in the fourth, adding 27 points to secure the victory.
Mohamed Keita was named Laval’s player of the game, contributing five points and five rebounds while anchoring the defensive effort.
Briawne Wilson earned player-of-the-game honours for Acadia with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 19 minutes off the bench. Kyle Munro and Robbie Grant each added 11 points for the Axemen, who shot 46 per cent from the field but were hurt by 17 turnovers.
Laval held a 44-38 edge on the boards and forced 17 Acadia turnovers, converting those mistakes into key scoring opportunities during the second half.
Sunday’s result secured fifth place for the Rouge et Or and marked the final game of the season for both programs.
