U SPORTS Announces Roster for 2024 FISU Sailing World University Championship
U SPORTS and the Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association announced Monday, the roster for the upcoming FISU Sailing World University Championship, set to unfold in Desenzano, Italy from June 6-10 on Lake Garda.
The regatta features 16 teams of student-athletes from around the world competing in the waters of lower Lake Garda, with two five-person teams (East and West) representing the Canadian contingent.
For Team West, skipper Alec Coleman of the University of Toronto will lead a team consisting of Richard Rychlik Jr.(Toronto), Mansell Styles (Queen’s), Tate Howell (Queen’s) and Sophia Moiseyenko (UBC).
On Team East, Dalhousie’s Cameron Bruce will take the position of skipper, while Harrison Bruce (Dalhousie), Rachel Green (Queen’s), Rosie Sbrolla (Queen’s) and Will Mauchan (Dalhousie) round out the crew.

Team West
Alec Coleman – Skipper / Driver (Toronto)
Coleman Grew up sailing in Vancouver and from a very young age was drawn to sailboat racing. Quickly becoming successful in dinghy sailing he graduated to keelboat sailing where he continues to dominate in both fleet racing and match racing. Coleman has competed in several different international events.
Richard Rychlik Jr. - Main Trimmer / Tactician (Toronto)
Hailing from California, Rychlik Jr. recently competed in the 2023 Youth Match Racing Worlds in Sydney, Australia. He uses this knowledge, along with his years of winning experience to aid the team as a hands-on and vocal trimmer and tactician.
Mansell Styles - Jib Trimmer (Queen’s)
Styles grew up sailing dinghies on Georgian bay before moving to Kingston yacht club to coach, train, and compete with the Queen's sailing team. In his time with the Queen’s Sailing Team, he has raced in various offshore and inshore keelboat regattas around North America and the Caribbean.
Tate Howell - Pit (Queen’s)
From Toronto, Howell has experience on the international stage competing in the Opti, 1420 and 29er classes before moving into the 49er and Waszp class. She is familiar with the highest levels of sailing through her experience working alongside SailGP Canada. Howell also has keelboat experience, sailing Match 40's and J105s.
Sophia Moiseyenko – Bow (UBC)
Moiseyenko grew up sailing in Vancouver and began racing optis and 420’s from a young age. Now at UBC, Moiseyenko races with both Farr 30 and Melges 24 teams.
Team East
Cameron Bruce - Skipper / Driver (Dalhousie)
Cameron Bruce grew up sailing Optis near Toronto at the Port Credit Yacht Club where he started racing at a young age. Cam later went on to race 420s and ILCA 6 (International Laser Class Association) along with a long list of other keelboats, sharpening his driving skills.
Harrison Bruce - Main Trimmer / Tactician (Dalhousie)
Harrison Bruce started sailing Optis from a young age at Bronte Harbour Yacht Club near Oakville Ontario. He went on to join the Ontario Sailing ILCA 6 Team where he went to multiple North American and National Championships.
Rachel Green - Jib Trimmer (Queen’s)
Green grew up sailing at The Royal Hamilton Yacht Club where she sailed optis, 420s and other keelboats until she went onto to join the Queens Sailing Team. Where she won multiple national events and a season title. Green recently attended the Pan Am Games for Canada in the lighting class.
Rosie Sbrolla – Pit (Queen’s)
Sbrolla grew up sailing at The Royal Canadian Yacht Club where she sailed 420s and other small dinghies before joining the Queen’s sailing team which has brought her to many places around the world including California, France, Antigua.
Will Mauchan – Bow (Dalhousie)
Mauchan grew up sailing at the Lake of Bays Yacht Club where he sailed 29ers and other small dinghies before competing around Canada and the US in the 29er class for most of his youth sailing career. After joinging the Dalhousie Sailing Team, he began sailing keelboats and other dinghies. Mauchan has now sailed in over 5 countries around the world and on a multitude of boat types and sailing styles.
