DAY 2 RECAP – 2025 FISU WINTER WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES
MIXED CURLING:
The team of Jessica Zheng (University of Waterloo) and Victor Pietrangelo (Brock University) went 2-1 on Day 2 of competition in Mixed Doubles Curling, moving their record to 4-1. They defeated Switzerland 9-4, fell 7-6 to Great Britain, and topped Japan 7-3. Zheng & Pietrangelo’s 4-1 record has them in a three-way tie for top of the standings with Great Britain and Germany.
SNOWBOARD CROSS:
Noah Royz (University of Ottawa) finished the qualifying round with the seventh-best time, placing him firmly in contention heading into the round-robin competition on January 13th in Bardonecchia.
Katie McQuiggin (Dalhousie University) registered the 13th quickest time down the hill in the Women’s event.
MEN’S HOCKEY:
Despite a 48-13 advantage in shots on goal and near-complete control of the entirety of the game, Canada couldn’t find a way to solve Czech goaltender Jan Skorpik, falling 2-1 in a shootout to Team Czechia.
Conor Frenette (Universite du Quebec a Trois Rivieres) scored Canada’s only goal, tipping in a Simon Lavigne (Concordia University) point shot in the first period. In overtime, Canada forwards Benjamin Corbeil (University of New Brunswick) and Sasha Mutala (University of British Columba) had chances to seal the victory, but couldn’t solve Skorpik. Samuel Richard (University of New Brunswick) made 12 saves for Canada in the defeat.
The team’s record now sits at 1-1.
