Savannah King
UBC Thunderbirds
King, a second-year arts student from Vancouver, was named CIS female swimmer of the year following the national championships in Montreal after she tallied five medals, broke a nine-year-old Canadian record, shattered a pair of championship marks that had stood for 10 years, and guided the Thunderbird women to the team title thanks to a record tally of 811.5 points. The 2008 Olympian set a new Canadian and CIS meet standard of 4:02.76 in the 400-metre freestyle, touched the wall in a championship-best time of 8:25.68 in the 800 free, and added silver in the 4x200 free relay and bronze in the 200 free and 200 back. King, who finished 19th in the 400 free at the 2008 Beijing Games, is now preparing for the Canadian Olympic trials set for March 27 to April 1st in Montreal.
