Canadian teams unbeaten after opening day at FISU America 3x3 championship
Canada’s three representatives remained unbeaten after the opening day of the 2026 FISU America 3x3 Basketball Championship in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on Tuesday.
The Carleton women, Saskatchewan women and Bishop’s men all posted 2-0 records in pool play.
The defending world university 3x3 champion Carleton Ravens opened with a 20-8 victory over the University of Magallanes of Chile before defeating the University of Azuay of Ecuador 21-13.
The Ravens roster includes Tyanne Matosas-Adderly of Toronto, Catherine Oliver of Sherbrooke, Que., Kyana-Jade Poulin of Brossard, Que., and Jacqueline Urban of Ancaster, Ont.
Carleton finished first in Pool A and will face the second-place team from Pool C in Wednesday’s quarterfinals at 12:20 p.m. ET.
The Saskatchewan Huskies defeated the University of Cuenca of Ecuador 20-7 before earning a 19-7 win over Anáhuac University of Mexico.
The Huskies lineup features Téa Demong, Maya Flindall of St. Albert, Alta., Ella Murphy Wiebe of Saskatoon and Logan Reider of Saskatoon.
Saskatchewan concludes pool play Wednesday against UPN of Honduras at 11:40 a.m. ET. A victory would secure first place in Pool C and a quarterfinal matchup against Azuay at 1:20 p.m. ET.
On the men’s side, the Bishop’s Gaiters opened with a 22-10 victory over the Technological University of Santander of Colombia before defeating the National Autonomous University of Honduras 22-7.
Bishop’s is represented by Reggie Jean Seraphin of Ottawa, Yanis Malanda of Montreal, Kyle Maurice of Lennoxville, Que., and Charles Robert of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que.
The Gaiters close pool play Wednesday against the National University of the Peruvian Amazon at 2:05 p.m. ET. Bishop’s has already clinched first place in Pool D and will advance to a round-of-16 game later Wednesday.
The tournament concludes Thursday with the semifinals and finals in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
