The Canadians dominated their rivals from start to finish and were
ahead 4-0 after the opening period and 8-0 after two, before adding
six goals in the final 20 minutes. The CIS all-star cast outshot
Great Britain 48-4 including a 13-0 advantage in the first, 15-2 in
the middle frame and 20-2 in the third.
Styles, a Wilfrid Laurier University forward from Orangeville,
Ont., made it 8-0 Canada midway through the second period before
adding three goals in a span of 11 minutes in the third.
George, a University of Saskatchewan student from Saskatoon, also
had a hat-trick with a goal in each period, and added a pair of
assists. Boras, a University of Alberta rearguard from Calgary,
amassed five helpers.
Three other players tallied at least three points including
Dalhousie’s Jocelyn Leblanc of Moncton, who had two goals and
two assists, York’s Courtney Unruh of Fort St. John, B.C.,
who finished with a goal and two helpers, and Laurier’s
Alicia Martin of Etobicoke, Ont., who set up three scoring
plays.
Also finding the back of the net for Canada were McGill’s
Ann-Sophie Bettez of Sept-Îles, Que., with a pair, as well as
York’s Kelsey Webster of Duncan, B.C., and Montreal’s
Kim Deschênes of Saint-Quentin, N.B., who both had
singles.
Deschênes scored the game-winner just 79 seconds into the
contest and the Canadians were up 3-0 after only 5:14 of play.
In a game that featured only one penalty - to Great Britain - all
of Canada’s goals were scored at even strength.
Laurier netminder Liz Knox recorded her first shutout and her
second win of the tournament. The Stouffville, Ont., native was in
net for Canada’s 2-1 shootout victory over Finland on
Thursday.
Lita-Lee Jarrold took the loss despite a 34-save effort.
With two games remaining in the preliminary round, Canada is the
only undefeated team in the six-country field and has a one-point
lead over Finland (2-0-1) in the standings. The top four teams
advance to the semifinals.
Canada wraps up round-robin play with duels against the United
States (1-2) Monday at 11 a.m. local time (4 a.m. ET) and Turkey
(0-2) Wednesday at 8 p.m. local (1 p.m. ET).
